A Miami-Dade officer's night took an unusual turn when a woman he had been drinking with allegedly stole his unmarked police car. The officer, who lives in the same Dadeland apartment building as the suspect, reported the incident yesterday, leading to her arrest today. Andrea Marie Assaf, a leasing agent at the building, reportedly used her key fob to enter the officer’s apartment and took his vehicle, according to Local 10 News.

The incident unfolded when Assaf and the officer went out for drinks. After returning home, the officer found that Assaf had entered his apartment without permission and took the keys to his police car, as reported by NBC Miami.

Authorities revealed that Assaf sent the officer a photo of herself in the stolen vehicle while driving down Southwest 72nd Avenue. The officer responded, urging her "not to drive the vehicle." Assaf later returned the car to the building's parking garage. When the officer tried to get his keys back from Assaf's apartment, she reacted aggressively. She tossed the keys on the floor and threw her phone at the officer, hitting him in the back of his head and causing a small cut according to Local 10 News.

Assaf was arrested by deputies at around 2:30 a.m. on charges of burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, grand theft of a vehicle, and battery on a police officer. During questioning, Assaf admitted to entering the officer’s apartment and taking the car keys. As of this afternoon, she was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on an $8,500 bond, while the investigation continues.
