Although Pence had a pleasant interaction with Trump at former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral, he stated he doesn’t expect to be invited to Mar-a-Lago anytime soon. The event, attended by officials, leaders, and some students, highlighted the complex role Pence plays in today’s political landscape. Pence expressed alignment with the current administration on issues like Cabinet picks and border management but differed on international aid and tariffs, emphasizing the need to stand firm against aggressors like Vladimir Putin to avoid military involvement. "For me, the decision, ultimately, is grounded in the fact that I have no doubt that if Vladimir Putin overruns Ukraine, it's only a matter of time before he crosses a border that our men and women in uniform are going to have to go fight him," Pence said, according to CBS12.
The speech drew a significant audience, despite Pence joking about not being used to such a crowd, acknowledging his reduced profile since January 6, 2021. Pence remains a prominent figure in national political discussions, particularly regarding the future of the Republican Party.
When asked about his thoughts on the January 6th rioters, who were later pardoned, Pence expressed pride in how the Constitution held up during that challenging day, while avoiding direct commentary on Trump’s pardons.
