The Buffalo Grove community breathed a collective sigh of relief as 12-year-old Jonathan Shin, reported missing Wednesday night, was found safe early Thursday morning. According to FOX 32 Chicago, Buffalo Grove officials canceled the missing person alert after Shin was located around 4:50 a.m. near the border of Buffalo Grove and Wheeling at Route 21/Lake Cook Road.
Details surrounding his temporary disappearance remain limited, however, village authorities have stated no evidence of anything criminal, which suggests that the incident may have been a case of a child simply wandering off. But the night was fraught with worry after Shin vanished while walking his dog, according to a report by ABC 7 Chicago, the pet was later found by a neighbor who returned it to the Shin family, this loose end tied neatly, however, it initially added to the distress of the situation.
The circumstances leading to Shin's return are not detailed; the agencies involved in the search have not publicly disclosed these specifics. The focus, instead, is on the relief of a community and the family, whose ordeal was met with a measure of grace as they welcomed their son back.
