The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is calling on the public to share their opinions, in a bid to shape the future of the state's transportation landscape. A survey has been launched to update the Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) and the State Freight and Rail Plan (SFRP), and resident input is deemed crucial. "Input from our customers and stakeholders is critical when it comes to our long range and freight and rail planning process," MoDOT Director Ed Hassinger said as per the MoDOT website. He stresses the importance of feedback from those who utilize the system to ensure it meets community needs across Missouri.
The survey, which takes about 10 minutes to complete, is accessible online and designed to gather data that will help MoDOT set goals and determine long-term priorities. The current LRTP was approved in 2018 and the SFRP in 2022, with the updated plans due to set the course for the next two and a half decades. Among the existing objectives are infrastructure investments to ensure safety, economic growth, more transportation choices, and reduced congestion.
Additionally, the SFRP's revisions will encompass an appraisal of the economic benefits provided by Missouri's public ports and passenger rail systems, the state truck parking infrastructure, and the identification of critical supply chains underpinning the state's economy. The survey's findings will directly impact the priorities and goals outlined in both the LRTP and the SFRP, which reflect federal mandates guiding state transportation policies and infrastructure development.
MoDOT encourages all Missouri residents to participate in the survey before it closes on April 30. For individuals without personal access to internet or a computer, local public libraries are available as resources. Following the survey phase, drafts of the LRTP and SFRP will be up for public comment in early 2026, with final plans set to be reviewed by the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission later that year. Questions regarding the survey and planning process can be directed to MoDOT via phone at 1-888-ASK-MoDOT (275-6636), or by mail at Transportation Planning, P.O.
