Montclare businesses are on high alert after a spate of commercial burglaries struck the neighborhood, according to a Chicago Police Department news bulletin. The report details an ongoing series of break-ins centered around the 6600 block of West Diversey Avenue, where a white male suspect has repeatedly made off with goods.
The burglaries, occurring at various times between January 10 and February 27, have seen the perpetrator forcibly entering a storage facility, accessing and pilfering from locked storage units before fleeing in a gray BMW. This pattern has emerged from the incidents outlined in the CPD's business alert. The suspect is described as a 40-year-old white male, approximately 6 feet tall, weighing 200 pounds, sporting short sandy hair and brown eyes. he is believed to have been involved in each of the reported incidents.
Business owners in the affected area are advised to take preemptive safety measures to deter future attempts. Suggestions from the police include maintaining well-lit perimeters, heightened awareness of suspicious behavior, immediate reporting of such activity, and ensuring that all access points are securely locked. Additionally, prompt repairs for any structural damages are recommended, especially for broken windows, doors, or locks.
In the event of a break-in, victims are urged not to tamper with the crime scene and, instead, contact the police forthwith; if surveillance footage is available, securing a copy for law enforcement is critical. Business operators witnessing these crimes are also encouraged to collect contact information from witnesses, as this can be invaluable for detectives working the case.
