The Loveland Dairy Whip, a fixture in Cincinnati since 1955, is ushering in the 2025 season with a new owner at the helm. Having taken over the business from Teresa and Rick Morgan, who decided to retire after 31 years, Luke Wiley stepped into the role of proprietor with zeal and a professed sweet tooth. "I’ve got a sweet tooth for sure," Wiley acknowledged in an interview with WCPO. Wiley reportedly consumed "two and a half" hot fudge sundaes by 11:45 a.m., showcasing his personal investment in the product's quality.
Despite the change in ownership, Wiley is dedicated to maintaining the traditions that have made the Dairy Whip an enduring part of the community. Signaled by the mention of the shop's classic plum-colored awning, Wiley plans no significant changes to the menu. However, a new item has been teased, and Dole pineapple soft serve has been introduced, emulating the popular treat found in Disney Parks. Wiley's children will be joining him, making the Dairy Whip's operation a family affair, while a decision to accept credit cards marks a modest modernization. "I truly envision our grandchildren working here one day," Wiley commented, as stated in a report by WLWT.
The Morgan couple expressed satisfaction with the transition, emphasizing the importance of the product’s quality. Four staffers from the original team are staying on, helping Wiley understand the ropes of the creamy enterprise. His hands-on approach has seen him and his general manager gain insights at a food expo in Sandusky earlier in the year. Wiley, who maintains his day job as a financial advisor, assures patrons that the much-loved offerings like The Chocolate Mountain and the Gummy Monster will remain fixtures on the menu. According to WCPO, the big reveal of the additional menu surprise is set for Friday.
While the Dairy Whip's seasonal operation spans from yesterday through September 28, with working hours from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. daily, Wiley's goals extend beyond sales targets. Instead, his focus is on gaining the trust of the establishment’s loyal customer base. According to WCPO, he said, "It’s really just satisfaction." With the anticipation building, the community watches as an area staple takes a measured stride into its new chapter.
