New Orleans drivers should be aware of several major road closures scheduled for the installation of sign truss assemblies, which may affect nighttime travel. According to a notification from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), the westbound span of US 90, from Bienville St. to Canal St., will be fully closed starting today until 5 a.m. tomorrow.
Simultaneously, westbound I-10 will experience significant lane reductions between St. Bernard Ave. and Orleans Ave., with only one lane open from 11 p.m. tonight until 5 a.m. tomorrow. During this period, traffic will be detoured at the Orleans Ave. exit. Additionally, brief but recurring closures of entrance and exit ramps along I-10 are expected, including the US 90 Business eastbound and Tulane Ave. on-ramps.
Eastbound I-10 drivers will encounter a full closure just before the Broad St. overpass during the same overnight hours, with traffic redirected to the US 90 Business westbound exit. The start of the workweek will see additional disruptions, as intermittent closures of the I-10 on-ramp from northbound Carrollton Ave. will occur from Monday night into Tuesday morning, affecting both eastbound and westbound directions.
The closures will continue as eastbound and westbound I-10 between Carrollton Ave. and Broad St. undergo recurring nighttime closures from Tuesday through Thursday, between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., culminating in a week of nightly disruptions. All planned roadwork is subject to weather conditions, and the DOTD urges drivers to remain cautious. "please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment," the agency advises, emphasizing safety for everyone involved.
