Heads up, New Orleans commuters: Exchange Place is getting a facelift, but it's going to cost you some convenience in the interim. This section of the road from Canal Street to Iberville Street will shut down briefly for some much-needed resurfacing work. The Department of Public Works contractor, Boh Bros. Construction Co. is managing the overhaul, with operations kicking off today and continuing on Monday, March 24.
Today, the milling operations will roll out the wrinkles of the old road, paving the way for the new one scheduled on Monday. According to a recent DPW advisory, the closures will take place from the early hours of 7 a.m. until the dust settles at 5:30 p.m. both days. As a gesture of weekend goodwill, Exchange Place will open up temporarily when construction halts, only to close once more when Monday beckons the workers back.
Navigating around the blocks won't be a guessing game, thankfully. Both vehicular voyagers and foot traffic will be guided by traffic control personnel and visible signage weaved throughout the work zones. This clear guidance promises to reduce the hassle, yet commuters should brace for the possible inconvenience and plan their routes accordingly.
This roadway makeover isn't just a one-off but part of a larger scheme—the DPW773 2024 Right of Way (ROW) Improvements Phase 2 Project. Given the nature of the beast, delays and schedule deviations are at the mercy of the weather gods and other unpredictable elements.
