The New Orleans Fire Department faced a blaze in a residential area of the 4800 block of St. Claude Ave early Friday morning. At approximately 8:50 a.m., firefighters arrived on the scene at 4807 St. Claude Ave to tackle flames engulfing the upstairs rear of a wood-framed, single-family dwelling. According to the City of New Orleans, the fire was so intense that a second alarm was sounded within a minute of their arrival.

A couple residing in the affected home reported to the New Orleans Fire Department  that they were unharmed but expressed concern for their several pets left inside. Among the animals were a pig, two dogs, and at least four cats. Before firefighters arrived, a neighbor stepped in and managed to save a third dog. In a heroic effort detailed by City of New Orleans, firefighters rescued a large pig and a large dog from the fire, with the latter found cowering under a bed upstairs. However, an unfortunate update confirmed the death of one dog and at least two missing cats.

The fire response was large, with 21 New Orleans Fire Department  units and 53 personnel working to put it out by 9:54 a.m. A nearby duplex at 4821 St. Claude Ave suffered moderate heat damage to an exterior wall. Some residents think candles may have caused the fire. An New Orleans Fire Department Fire Investigator is still working to determine the cause. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters, as per the City of New Orleans.

Alongside the New Orleans Fire Department 's efforts, Entergy and the New Orleans Police Department played roles in managing the situation. The recovered pets received oxygen treatment on-site and went on to a check-up by a Louisiana SPCA representative, as reported by City of New Orleans.
