Yesterday evening's routine bustle at the intersection of Gentilly Boulevard and Elysian Fields Avenue turned tragic when a hit-and-run incident claimed the life of an adult black female. In an update shared by the New Orleans Police Department, it was reported that at about 8:00 p.m., officers and EMS were called to the scene, where the victim was found unresponsive and declared deceased shortly after.
The NOPD immediately launched an investigation, which led to the identification of a silver Nissan Altima as the involved vehicle. The driver had fled after the crash, leaving behind no contact information or aid to the stricken pedestrian.
Following the NOPD's diligence, an adult male came forward to the Third District station, indicating the driver's intent to surrender. NOPD Traffic Fatality Unit detectives headed to the Seventh District, where they located both the suspect vehicle and the driver, Dominic Sartin, born July 2, 2000. In statements to the police, Sartin confessed to his role in the unfortunate event and was subsequently booked for hit-and-run driving resulting in a fatality. The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office is currently tasked with identifying the victim and ascertaining the official cause of death, following an autopsy.
