Over 30 Lawrence residents lost their homes after a fire destroyed a multi-family building on Lea Street on Saturday. WHDH reports that the fire caused no injuries but left the property, owned by State Rep. Estela Reyes, a total loss. The Lawrence Fire Department responded with ladder trucks and fought the fire throughout the afternoon.
Lawrence Mayor Brian DePena was at the scene, stating, “Four families lose everything in a couple of minutes,” according to WHDH. Rep. Reyes and DePena pledged resources for those displaced. Footage captured by NewsCenter 5 showed "flames shooting through the windows and the siding scorched." Firefighters responded quickly to contain the blaze, as per WCBV.
A three-alarm fire in Lawrence destroyed a building on Lea Street, but firefighters contained it from spreading further. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and officials have not yet released findings. Residents are awaiting updates.
