St. Tammany Parish drivers, brace yourselves for some overnight roadwork that's poised to disrupt your regular travel routines. Planned construction will completely close both directions of LA 21, the eastbound and westbound routes of US 190 BUS, starting Sunday, March 30, at 8:00 PM and concluding Monday morning, at 6:00 AM, according to an announcement from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD). The affected stretch begins at the intersection of US 190 Bus. (Claiborne Sq.) with a mile post of 10.031 and terminates near the US 190 West Side Bogue Falaya Bridge ramp, at mile post 9.885.
The DOTD has outlined explicit detour routes to aid motorists. Eastbound travelers on US 190 Bus./LA 21 (W. 21st Ave.) will be redirected onto US 190, then northbound on US 190 Bus. (Claiborne Sq.), and finally eastbound on US 190 Bus./LA 21 (E. Boston St.). Westbound vehicles will be guided southbound on US 190 Bus. (Claiborne Sq.), merging onto eastbound/southbound US 190 and then onto I-12, or proceeding to Collins Blvd. via US 190 (Bogue Falaya Bridge), before connecting with LA 25. Further details of the detour can be found on the DOTD website.
This temporary closure is essential for the road construction to be carried out safely and efficiently. The DOTD assures the public that emergency vehicles, unfortunately, will not have access to the section of US 190 Bus./LA 21 (E. Boston St.) underneath the US 190 Bogue Falaya Bridge during these times. The construction is scheduled for a single night, presumably to minimize longer-term disruptions to traffic flow and daily commutes for residents.
Residents and visitors planning to travel in or around the area during this time should prepare for potential delays and arrange their schedules accordingly. Compliance with the suggested detour routes will help to ensure smooth traffic movement around the construction zone, as well as the safety of both the drivers, and the roadwork crews. Anyone seeking additional updates or information on the roadwork can visit the DOTD announcement page.
