
A family in Peoria found themselves without a home Sunday night as a fire swept through their residence. According to 25 News Now, the fire ignited just after 6 p.m. at the house located at 1824 North Sheridan Road. Firefighters from the Peoria Fire Department responded quickly to the scene, where they were able to barely keep the blaze from escalating to the second story and roof.
The two adults and three children who were residing in the home managed to escape unharmed before the fire department's arrival. Battling the flames, the firefighters deployed multiple hose lines and controlled the fire within 15 minutes. "Crews deployed multiple water lines to get the fire under control within 15 minutes," Battalion Chief Mike Ralston stated in a quote obtained by Central Illinois Proud. This timely response was pivotal in preventing a potentially larger disaster.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with no clear indication yet as to what sparked the incident. Both a fire investigator and an arson dog were present at the scene, performing a thorough examination to understand the origin of the fire. As of the latest reports, there has been no official cause determined.
Fortunately, there were no physical injuries reported. Still, the fire caused significant property damage estimated at $60,000. In the aftermath, the local chapter of the American Red Cross stepped up to offer assistance to the displaced families, helping them to secure temporary housing.
