The Arizona Department of Transportation has issued a travel advisory for this weekend due to freeway restrictions in the Phoenix area. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time and use alternative routes during the closures, which are part of ongoing freeway improvement projects, as reported by the Arizona Department of Transportation.
Eastbound Interstate 10 will be closed between the State Route 51 "Mini-Stack" interchange and US 60 (Superstition Freeway) from 10 p.m. on Friday to 4 a.m. on March 31 for the I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project. This closure includes eastbound I-10 on-ramps between Third Street in downtown Phoenix and Baseline Road, and the southbound SR 51 ramp to eastbound I-10. The southbound Interstate 17 connection to eastbound I-10 near Sky Harbor Airport and southbound SR 143 ramps to eastbound I-10 will also be closed. "Some ramp closures start at 8 p.m. Friday," according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. Drivers can use eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway), southbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) in Tempe, or south/eastbound Loop 202 (South Mountain Freeway) to detour. Southbound I-17 on-ramps at Seventh Avenue and Seventh Street will also be closed from 8 p.m. on Friday to 4 a.m. on March 31.
Westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) will be closed between Alma School and Dobson roads from 11:30 p.m. on Saturday to noon on Sunday for message sign removal as part of a widening project. The "Eastbound Loop 202 HOV lane closed between Dobson and Alma School roads," and drivers should detour via Germann or Pecos roads. State Route 347 will narrow to a single lane in both directions at Cement Plant Road and the Gila River Bridge north of Maricopa from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Friday and on Saturday for pavement maintenance. "Allow extra travel time and be prepared to slow down and merge safely in all work zones," Arizona Department of Transportation advises. These projects are part of the Regional Transportation Plan funded by Proposition 400 and Proposition 479. Real-time updates are available on az511.gov, the az511 app, or by dialing 511.
