Residents who rely on the Plaquemine/Sunshine Ferry need to brace for a schedule shake-up. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has announced the temporary relocation of one of its ferries. As of Friday, the second ferry providing passage in Plaquemine will cease its service and be rerouted to Cameron Parish.
The shift comes as an effort to provide relief in Cameron Parish, where the local ferry is undergoing repairs. While the Plaquemine community might feel the pinch, it’s a much-needed intervention for residents of Cameron Parish who are currently stranded without a working ferry. Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development assures that the remaining ferry will still operate, albeit with reduced hours. From Monday to Friday, services will run from 4 a.m. to 9 p.m., and on weekends, the ferry will operate between 9:30 a.m. to 6:45 p.m.
