Indiana's agricultural community can expect to see new leadership at the helm of the Indiana State Fair Commission Advisory Committee, with House Speaker Todd Huston appointing State Rep. Beau Baird to chair the influential group. In a statement released by Indiana House Republicans, Baird expressed his honor at the nomination, emphasizing the fair's role in highlighting the state's agricultural tradition and commitment to economic growth.
Baird, a Greencastle Republican who also chairs the House Environmental Affairs Committee, will focus on guiding policies and initiatives to support the Indiana State Fair with its variety of events that include livestock exhibitions, 4-H contests, and other educational programs that honor Indiana’s agricultural and cultural heritage, according to the Indiana House Republicans, the fair, established in 1852, is one of the nation's oldest continuous state fairs, drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.
The Indiana State Fair Commission Advisory Committee has a significant role in developing the activities and programs that reach beyond the fair, extending to the Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center, a location that stands as not just a seasonal attraction but a year-round hub for various events set on 214 sprawling acres in Indianapolis.
With a background in advocating for Indiana's agricultural sector and rural communities, Baird is expected to contribute to the state fair's impact by applying his experience and leadership to the committee. He stated to the Indiana House Republicans that the state fair is an important event for families, exhibitors, and visitors, and his role will focus on supporting agricultural excellence across the Hoosier State.
