The residents of Armour Square and the broader South Side are on high alert following a string of armed robberies reported by the Chicago Police Department. As noted in a community alert, these incidents occurred within the 9th (Deering) District, with thieves aggressively demanding and seizing personal property at gunpoint before fleeing on foot or by car.
The robberies took place under the cover of night, with two back-to-back incidents on the 2700 block of S. Wentworth, first on March 2 at 1:32 a.m. and then again on March 12 at 1:38 a.m. A third occurrence was reported on the same day at 1:45 a.m., situated in the 400 block of W. 29th St. Victims were confronted by one or two male perpetrators, described as wearing dark-colored clothing and face masks, as detailed in the official police communication.
To enhance personal safety, authorities urge the public to stay vigilant and report any unusual activity. If faced with an assailant, individuals should try to recall any distinctive features, such as scars or limp, that could assist law enforcement. The Chicago Police Department advises against pursuing suspects, suggesting that witnesses and victims focus on providing detailed descriptions to police officers.
For anyone who finds themselves a witness or a victim to such incidents, the CPD recommends collecting contact information from other witnesses and contacting 9-1-1 immediately.
