The San José Police Department has reported the arrest of a suspect linked to two separate sexual assault incidents that occurred at the end of February. According to the San José Police Department, 46-year-old Lamont Carter, a San José resident and registered sex offender, was taken into custody for his alleged involvement in these crimes.
The first reported incident took place on February 26, when an adult female survivor encountered the suspect and subsequently locked into his vehicle under the guise of conversation. The situation escalated as Carter tried repeatedly to kiss her against her will, then proceeded to both batter and sexually assault the woman while threatening her with a firearm. The survivor managed to escape and eventually sought assistance. In the second episode, unfolding a day later, Carter allegedly attacked another adult female after she entered his car, mentioned possession of a firearm, and assaulted her following drug consumption. The survivor was able to get away and alert authorities.
Following the initial response by patrol officers from the San José Police Department, the Sexual Assault Investigations Unit (SAIU) promptly commenced a thorough investigation. Detectives connected the accused to another similar assault that happened the day before the February 27 incident. With the aid of the Special Operations Covert Response Unit, SAIU detectives apprehended Carter on February 28, and he was later charged with sexual battery, criminal threats, and false imprisonment.
The San José Police Department seeks additional information that may relate to these cases or potentially uncover further victims. They encourage anyone with information to contact Detective Saavedra at (408) 277-4102 or via email at [email protected].
