Early this morning, a trailer carrying two vehicles tipped over on Interstate 290 near Worcester, prompting a search for the missing driver. State police responded to the scene shortly after 5 a.m. at mile marker 16, on the eastbound side of the highway where the left and middle lanes were closed as a result of the accident, the whereabouts of the driver or what led to the crash are still unknown at this point, an investigation is ongoing, as reported by NBC Boston.
As detailed by Boston 25 News, the emergency response included the uprighting and towing away of the damaged vehicles and the deserted trailer before 7:30 a.m., there were no reported injuries but the investigation continues to piece together the events that led to the driver abandoning the overturned trailer.
The closure of the impacted lanes caused significant traffic on the interstate while cleanup crews and emergency responders worked to clear the scene. Police are asking anyone with information about the incident or the driver to come forward as both the search and investigation into the cause of the accident remains active and ongoing.
