A semi truck driver was seriously injured after his vehicle rolled over on Alligator Alley, prompting a complex rescue operation yesterday morning. According to CBS Miami, the incident occurred near Mile Marker 40 on Interstate 75, where the Broward County Sheriff's Fire Rescue (BSFR) found the driver, a 40-year-old man, trapped inside the cab of the overturned truck with "significant leg injuries."
The rescue was complicated due to the driver being heavily entangled within the wreckage. While trapped, the man was provided continuous medical treatment by BSFR for about 90 minutes as rescuers worked to free him, as NBC Miami reported. The team had to employ an extensive extrication operation before he could be safely removed from the vehicle.
After being successfully extricated, the driver was airlifted to Broward Health Fort Lauderdale. He sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries, stated the BSFR. His current condition remains unreported following the transfer to the hospital's care.
The cause of the rollover which left a semi-tractor trailer overturned and its driver airlifted is currently under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. No other vehicles have been reported as involved in the incident, and no further injuries have been disclosed relating to the event.
