Southbridge Police Department has reported the arrest of a shooting suspect involved in an incident on Worcester Street last week. According to a Facebook post by the department, officers responded to the scene after receiving the report of gunshots fired from a vehicle at approximately 10:12pm last Thursday, March 13.
Following witness statements, it was gleaned that a melee had ensued among a group on the street before a male suspect was seen to run to a car, arm himself with a gun, and discharge it toward an apartment building. He then fled the vicinity in the vehicle. The immediate issuance of a BOLO to neighboring police units swiftly resulted in the identification of the suspected vehicle parked outside a residence in North Brookfield.
North Brookfield Police then accosted the vehicle, noticing a firearm plainly visible on its passenger seat. The vehicle was seized, and upon gaining the requisite authority through a search warrant, a Glock handgun, additional magazines, and ammunition were uncovered. This discovery precipitated the issue of a felony warrant for the alleged shooter, Jose Paredes, as implicated by the lengthy investigation.
Yesterday, law enforcement officers had managed to successfully locate and apprehend Paredes without further incident. Charged with multiple firearm offenses, including the discharge of a firearm within proximity to residential dwellings and unlicensed possession of both a firearm and ammunition, the 29-year-old was processed at local headquarters before being brought before Dudley District Court for his arraignment.
