A high-speed incident in Northwest Miami-Dade ended with a suspect under arrest after crashing into a residential property. The event occurred on Saturday afternoon when Florida Highway Patrol officers saw 41-year-old Antwan David Lawson driving erratically and attempted a traffic stop. Local 10 News reports that the brief pursuit ended when Lawson crashed his black Nissan Maxima into the yard of a home at Northwest 103rd Street and Northwest 2nd Court.
The crash caused damage to a fence, lamp post, and landscaping. NBC Miami reports that the driver's side of the Nissan struck a black SUV traveling westbound, then veered into the backyard. After the crash, Lawson allegedly tried to flee on foot, leading to a chase captured by home surveillance cameras. He jumped fences and ran through backyards, evading deputies for a short time before being caught.
Deputies set up a perimeter, and Lawson, with six prior convictions for driving with a suspended license, was apprehended, according to Local 10 News. He faces six felony charges, including evading police and crashing into the homeowner’s yard, with no injuries reported.
