A suspect has been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred outside the Handlery Hotel in Hotel Circle. The incident, which left one man dead and another injured, unfolded on Monday, according to a press release by the San Diego Police Department.
Witnesses contacted San Diego Police shortly after 8:20 p.m., reporting the shooting, and described the suspect as a short, heavy, Hispanic male in his thirties. Initial information at the time suggested he had attempted to leave the property in a vehicle quickly. Responding officers located the deceased victim, a 19-year-old Hispanic man, inside the hotel's hallway. The young man had succumbed to a gunshot wound to his upper torso. His identity has not been disclosed pending family notification.
The second shooting victim, who sustained at least one gunshot wound to his upper body, was found outside the hotel lobby. Medics transported the 23-year-old Hispanic man to a nearby hospital, and he is expected to recover from his non-life-threatening injuries. In the aftermath of the incident, police swiftly acted to track down the shooter.
Officers could locate a dark-colored F-150 truck parked on the hotel grounds by canvassing the area. The vehicle was occupied by a male who matched the provided description. Officers carefully ordered the man out of the truck and subsequently took him into custody without incident. The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Kevin Larin, has been booked on murder charges at San Diego County Jail.
