An early morning hit-and-run incident outside Hyannis' Tiki Port restaurant left two women injured, one critically, according to the Barnstable Police Department. In a post on their official Facebook page, the department detailed a white pickup truck's involvement in the event, which occurred yesterday at approximately 1:50 a.m.
First responders, including Barnstable Police Officers and Hyannis Fire and Rescue personnel, treated the two victims on site. One of the injured women, faced with grave injuries, required transportation to Cape Cod Gateway Airport, and from there, was flown to a Level 1 Trauma Center in Rhode Island. The second victim, who sustained what appeared to be minor injuries, was taken to Cape Cod Hospital.
Police efforts swiftly led to the identification of the suspect vehicle. It wasn't long before a Barnstable Patrol Officer located the white pick-up truck, carrying out a traffic stop. Following an investigation, the truck's operator—21-year-old Yarmouthport resident Maxwell Dean—was arrested. Dean faces charges that include 2 Counts of Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Personal Injury among other violations. Currently, Dean is held on a $20,000 bail, with an upcoming arraignment scheduled for March 24 in Barnstable District Court, as per the Barnstable Police Department's statement.
While the investigation remains active, spearheaded by the Barnstable Police Department's Traffic and Detective Units, the community has been left reeling from the ramifications of the incident. Information regarding the condition of the two female victims has not yet been updated since their initial treatment.
