Three individuals were apprehended and taken into custody amidst the aftermath of an alleged carjacking incident in Rockwood, according to a report by the Gresham Police Department. The crime, which took place in the early hours of Wednesday, involved the theft of a vehicle at gunpoint, stated the victim, who was lured to SE 185th and Stark St through a messaging application. Upon fleeing the scene, the suspects were soon under the watchful eye of law enforcement.
A deputy from the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office caught a glimpse of the stolen vehicle and initiated an attempted traffic stop, but instead met with a prolonged chase as the driver bolted toward I-84. Portland Police took the reins when the car crossed into their jurisdiction, only to discover the vehicle deserted near NE 19 Avenue and Pacific Street, according to the Gresham Police report. Reports indicated that, while carrying handguns, the suspects were seen running toward the Lloyd Center exit - a sight reported by a passing motorist.
The ensuing law enforcement response included personnel from the Gresham PD, along with MCSO, and PPB officers, who swiftly cordoned off the surrounding area. Subsequently, three out of the four suspects were located and arrests were made, while the fourth individual remains at large, still pursued by the authorities. 21-year-old Donald Kargbo was one of those arrested, now facing a stack of charges including robbery in the first degree, menacing, and the unauthorized use of a vehicle, per the details released by the Gresham Police Department. The two juveniles apprehended have been referred to the juvenile unit of the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office, where they will be met with considerations for their involvement in the crime.
