Tragedy struck Chicago's West Humboldt Park neighborhood on Sunday afternoon as three young males became the latest victims of the city's ongoing gun violence. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the shooting occurred outside a home on the 4200 block of West Crystal Street.
At 3:26 p.m., a 23-year-old man, an 18-year-old man, and a 16-year-old boy were standing in broad daylight when someone opened fire. They each took themselves to different area hospitals, with both older victims initially deemed to be in critical condition. The CBS News Chicago report detailed that the 23-year-old was shot in the neck and groin, while the 18-year-old suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his torso and arm. The younger teenager's injuries were said to be less severe, with a gunshot wound in his right armpit.
Following the harrowing self-transport to medical facilities, all three victims were then moved to Stroger Hospital of Cook County. Details provided by the police confirmed their critical status at that time. As the night descended on the already grief-stricken neighborhood, no arrests were immediately made, and the Grand Central Area detectives initiated an investigation into the shootings.
