An early morning alert today led the Broward Sheriff’s Office to investigate a "suspicious incident" at Dania Beach's Elevate apartments. Two adults, a man and a woman, were found at the scene, according to WSVN.
The investigation began after reports were made to Broward County Regional Communications around 1:47 a.m. Deputies discovered a woman deceased at the scene. The man was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, as per the Local 10 report. The identities of the deceased have not been disclosed, and it is unclear if they were residents of the complex.
Around 30 deputies cordoned off the area, from Southeast Fifth Avenue to Gulf Stream Road, setting up a mobile command post. Authorities confirmed that there was no immediate threat to the communit, as reported by NBC Miami.
Witnesses have shared accounts of the scene. One resident told WSVN that they heard a woman shouting for people to stay inside, followed by a large number of BSO cruisers arriving. Another resident, Santiago Moreno, recounted to, "I hear like two noises, big noises I don’t know if they were like gunshots, but they sound like that," prompting him to barricade his apartment with a sofa.
BSO's Crime Scene and Homicide Units are continuing the investigation, and Broward Crime Stoppers is seeking any information that could aid in the case. Traffic diversions have been set up, with one eastbound lane of Dania Beach Boulevard remaining open, and authorities recommend using alternate routes.
