University of Georgia sophomore and Alpha Chi Omega sorority member Lily Stewart was arrested again this past weekend by UGA police. The 20-year-old was taken into custody just before 5:30 a.m. yesterday, charged with misdemeanors for loitering or prowling and obstructing a law enforcement officer, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.
Stewart was released from the Athens-Clarke County Jail after posting a $4,600 bond, just before 11 a.m. the same day. This arrest follows an earlier incident on March 8 when Stewart was cited for excessive speeding twice within minutes. Although the speeding charge was later dismissed, her second arrest has raised some questions.
Yesterday, UGA police responded to an intrusion alarm at the Tate Center. Security cameras showed Stewart and three others entering the building after hours. When officers arrived, Stewart initially eluded capture but was later found hiding near Sanford Stadium. FOX 5 Atlanta reported that Stewart admitted she had tried to avoid the police because she was "out on bond" and didn’t want to get caught.
Stewart's latest mugshot, showing her smiling, has garnered attention on social media. The images, shared by TMZ and described in the New York Post, show Stewart in what appears to be prison garb. After her release on the over $4,000 bond, she posted a TikTok video about the situation.
Stewart's attorney, Stephen Morris, did not comment on the new charges but confirmed that the previous speeding charge had been dismissed. Public reactions to Stewart’s arrests have varied, with some taking to social media to comment on the situation. When asked about the attention, Stewart told the New York Post, "I think it’s hilarious. I don’t know what all the hype is about. I just took a mugshot and went on with my day." She explained her appearance in the mugshot by saying she was preparing for a birthday party she was trying to attend before her first arrest.
