As the community grapples with the aftermath of recent flooding, Hands On is calling for volunteers for a flood relief project set for this Saturday. Tasked with various responsibilities, from removing water and water-damaged items to gutting out floors and walls, volunteers will play a critical role in restoring damaged properties. These efforts underscore the ongoing need for hands-on support to aid in the city's recovery.
Volunteers who are willing to get their hands dirty are in demand. Specific tasks include operating tools like sledgehammers and prybars, as well as heavy lifting. According to Clarksville's official announcement, "All volunteers should be comfortable using tools and equipment such as sledgehammers, prybars, hammers, chisels, shovels, utility knives, and floor scrapers." Protective gear will be provided to ensure the safety of all involved, but volunteers are asked to come dressed in clothes suitable for messy work and to wear waterproof shoes or work boots.
The project is not recommended for individuals with respiratory illnesses, as the environment on-site could exacerbate their condition. Hands-On is taking measures to create a safe working environment by supplying Personal Protective Equipment, including Tyvek suits, safety glasses, respirators, and gloves, which must be worn while volunteering.
