Wakefield police are conducting a vigilant search following a double shooting yesterday evening. Two men were shot in their car on Lakeshore Drive shortly before 8 p.m., and the investigation is ongoing today. According to CBS Boston, both victims, whose identities have not been disclosed, are currently receiving medical treatment at local hospitals. Their injuries are described as serious but not life-threatening.
Focusing their efforts near the scene, a Lakeshore Drive and around the Cumberland Farms on Lowell Street, law enforcement officials, including the State Police K-9 unit, are engaged in searches and are calling for the public's assistance. "Preliminary investigation indicates that this was an isolated incident and that these victims were targeted," Wakefield Deputy Police Chief Craig Calabrese told CBS Boston. As authorities continue to canvas the area, they have not yet released descriptions of any suspects involved.
Wakefield residents have been advised to avoid the area of the incident and to remain vigilant, reporting any suspicious activity to the police. With the investigation ongoing, Boston 25 News confirms that despite an extensive search, including the use of K9 units, no arrests had been made as of early this morning.
Police believe the attack was not random and are currently searching for an unknown number of suspects. Residents or witnesses with any pertinent information are encouraged to contact the Wakefield police at 781-245-1212. The heavy police presence is expected to remain as they piece together the circumstances surrounding the shooting. "This remains an active investigation," Calabrese stated to CBS Boston, reaffirming the department's commitment to transparency and information sharing as the case unfolds.
