Indiana's roads are about to get smoother, with more than $2.2 million in state grants funneled into local road and bridge projects in Washington County. This financial support is part of the larger Community Crossings Matching Grant Program, which has designated over $200 million to 245 communities this year. The grants are dedicated to a range of infrastructure enhancements including road reconstruction, bridge preservation and intersection improvements.

State Rep. Karen Engleman (R-Georgetown) emphasized the collaborative nature of the initiative. In the statement obtained by Indiana House Republicans, Engleman said, "This funding helps local communities move forward faster on needed upgrades to ensure the safety of our infrastructure." The investments are not only aimed at upgrading the roads, but also improving traffic safety—a fact underscored by Indiana’s recent top ranking for road conditions by Consumer Affairs.

Local communities are set to benefit significantly from the grants, with areas like Campbellsburg receiving $440,777, Salem $194,595, Saltillo $194,595, and Washington County being awarded a substantial $1.5 million. The allocations reflect the state's commitment to maintain and improve critical transportation infrastructure.

State Rep. Jim Lucas (R-Seymour) pointed out the wider economic implications of the road improvements. "Not only do these grants help everyday Hoosiers, but our local and statewide businesses as well," Lucas told Indiana House Republicans. He highlighted that efficient roads are key to ensuring timely deliveries and shipments, which in turn supports the continued success of Indiana businesses.
