David Preston Heller, also known as "Disco," has been arrested in connection to a shooting incident on Hogans Street in West Palm Beach last month. The altercation left one person injured and hospitalized. CBS12 News reported that the West Palm Beach Police Department's ShotSpotter system detected gunshots shortly after midnight, prompting officers to respond to a vacant lot where the dispute had taken place.
A witness told officers that Heller and the victim were arguing about their financial status when the situation escalated. The victim allegedly shoved Heller, causing Heller to pull a gun and shoot, according to the witness statement obtained by CBS12 News. The victim later identified Heller in a photo lineup "without hesitation" while in the hospital, leading to Heller's arrest for attempted second-degree murder with a firearm.
WPBF added that the victim, who was shot in the abdomen, received medical treatment from West Palm Beach Fire Rescue and was taken to Saint Mary's Medical Center for surgery. Witnesses also reported seeing Heller flee the scene in an old pickup truck, which helped authorities identify him.
The West Palm Beach police continue to investigate the incident as an attempted second-degree murder.
