Community members in Wilmington are dealing with the news of a fatal crash that resulted in the death of a local woman Wednesday evening. The Middlesex District Attorney's Office, along with the Wilmington Police Department, confirmed the accident occurred on Route 62.
The preliminary findings, as reported on the official Middlesex District Attorney's website, indicate that a Lexus RX 330, driven by Erica Mastropietro, 41, veered into oncoming traffic around 9:09 p.m. The vehicle collided head-on with a Jeep Grand Cherokee, traveling at a high rate, resulting in catastrophic repercussions.
Mastropietro, the sole occupant of the Lexus, was quickly transported to Lahey Hospital in Burlington, yet, despite medical efforts, was later pronounced dead. The driver of the Jeep, also the only person in the vehicle, is currently receiving treatment at the same hospital, struggling to recover from injuries sustained in the severe incident.
Officials have stated that the Middlesex District Attorney's Office, Wilmington Police, and the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section of the Massachusetts State Police are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
