
A woman is fighting for her life after being hit by a car while traversing a West Side crosswalk early Friday morning, Chicago police told WGN-TV. The incident occurred just before 6 a.m. on the 1500 block of South Pulaski Road in the North Lawndale neighborhood. The driver of the vehicle, a 24-year-old man driving an SUV northbound, continued on his route before returning to the scene to report the crash to authorities.
According to police, the woman, whose age has not yet been made public, was struck within the crosswalk by the northbound vehicle. Details provided by FOX 32 Chicago indicate that although the driver left the scene initially, he later contacted the police to relay that he had been involved in an accident. The woman sustained multiple injuries and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
Investigators from the Chicago Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Unit are looking into the crash. Despite the severe outcomes of the event, police have yet to issue any citations in connection with the incident. As of now, the investigation into the exact circumstances of the accident continues, and authorities have not disclosed further information about the driver's actions following the collision.
