An 8-year-old child drowned in a swimming pool at a North Lauderdale house party just after midnight yesterday in the 6700 block of Stardust Drive, according to authorities.
As reported by WSVN, Broward Sheriff's Office deputies performed CPR at the scene, and the child was rushed to the hospital by North Lauderdale Fire Rescue. Despite efforts to save the child, the victim was pronounced dead.
Broward Sheriff's Office detectives from the Homicide and Crime Scene Units are investigating the circumstances of the drowning. A representative from the Florida Department of Children and Families is also involved in the investigation. Details about what led to the incident have not been released.
