Last Saturday, an alleged serial shoplifter's escapades at the Colma Target store came to a dramatic end. The Colma Police Department reported that officers were dispatched to the retail location after they received a report of theft in progress. The suspect, Dhani Ratliff, was accused of stealing wine bottles and returning to the store to conceal men's clothing.
When law enforcement arrived, they encountered Ratliff inside the Target at 5001 Junipero Serra Boulevard. Prompted by the officers' presence, the suspect fled, leading them on a chase through the aisles. Fortunately, the pursuit was brief, as officers managed to apprehend Ratliff outside the establishment. According to the social media post from the Colma Police Department, a total of $481.63 in stolen goods was recovered following his arrest.
Loss Prevention officers at Target conveyed to the police that Ratliff was a known offender with a history of eluding capture. They claimed that his illegal activities had already cost the store approximately $2,580.26 before this incident. Ratliff's extensive history of theft was also confirmed through a criminal background check, which uncovered multiple prior convictions. Due to California's Proposition 36, he faced felony charges due to his repeat offenses.
The 51-year-old San Francisco resident now faces multiple charges that include burglary, grand theft, felony theft with priors, and resisting or obstructing peace officers. Ratliff was booked into San Mateo County Jail.
