Arajet Airlines has officially begun service in the U.S. with its inaugural flight landing in Miami from the Dominican Republic. This development fortifies the bridge between the island nation and the United States, promising economic and cultural exchanges bolstered by increased connectivity. The first flight, as reported by Miami-Dade County's news release, touched down at Miami International Airport on April 11 to a warm welcome. Mayor Daniella Levine Cava highlighted the mutual benefits of this new route, stating that it will not only usher tourists to Miami-Dade County but also provide residents with affordable travel options to the Dominican Republic.
In line with Arajet's expansion, four weekly flights are currently being operated, a number that is expected to rise come summer with daily flights to Miami from Santo Domingo and Punta Cana. Arajet's leap into the American market, as noted in their two-year trajectory, has seen over two million passengers entrusted to their care, illustrating a thriving aviation sector in the Dominican Republic. Despite the company's young age, it has pursued a bold step forward, intensifying its presence on the international stage.
Dominican and U.S. government representatives observed the unveiling of this connection with great enthusiasm. Geanilda Vasquez, the Consul General of the Dominican Republic in Miami, painted the event as a testament to the growth of Dominican aviation. "This flight is an achievement that reflects the growth of our aviation sector and the increasing connectivity that benefits both Dominicans and those who wish to visit our country," Vasquez told Miami-Dade County. The celebratory atmosphere was further amplified by a symbolic exchange of sports jerseys – a gesture from both sides signifying the unity through common passions.
The ceremony included the traditional water cannon salute, a spectacle seen as the final gesture of receiving Arajet into the U.S. aviation fold. CEO Víctor Pacheco Méndez described the Miami route as "just the beginning" of Arajet's commitment. His statement, obtained by Miami-Dade County, envisions a network linking various destinations across the Americas. With growing operations, Arajet stands as a symbol of the Dominican Republic's endeavor to carve a niche within the global skyways.
