An arrest warrant has been issued for 54-year-old Candido Raul Rubio-Perez in connection with the fatal stabbing of his estranged wife, 52-year-old Niurka Alfonso-Acevedo, outside Chadwell Elementary School in Madison. The violent incident, described by police as domestic in nature, occurred early this morning before students arrived on campus, as reported by the Nashville Police Department.
Responding to the scene at around 6 a.m., officers were called by a school staff member who arrived to find Alfonso-Acevedo's body in the parking lot. According to the police, Rubio-Perez is believed to have been waiting in the parking lot this morning to likely commit the attack. Alfonso-Acevedo was a custodian at the elementary school since the previous fall. The warrant charges Rubio-Perez with criminal homicide.
The Nashvile Police Department is actively seeking information regarding the whereabouts of Rubio-Perez. They urge anyone with information to step forward, offering the assurance of anonymity alongside a potential cash reward of up to $5,000 for homicide cases. The information can be relayed through Crime Stoppers at the contact number 615-742-7463.
As the search for Rubio-Perez continues, the community and school are grappling with the shock of the violence that unfolded in what is typically a safe and welcoming space for children. The school has not provided a statement on how it plans to address the traumatic event with the students and staff. However, this tragic occurrence spotlights the often silent but deadly issue of domestic violence that can, and did in this case, escalate to a public and fatal confrontation. The law enforcement is appealing to the community to assist in apprehending Rubio-Perez quickly, to not only seek justice for Alfonso-Acevedo but also ensure public safety.
