Drivers and residents in the Chicago suburb of Aurora are about to experience an upgrade in their Department of Motor Vehicles-related affairs. A new, innovative DMV, dubbed DMV+, is slated to open its doors on Monday at 2 p.m. This upgraded facility aims to offer more robust services than ever before provided at previous Illinois DMV locations. NBC Chicago reported that the facility is a "state-of-the-art" expansion intended to alleviate the notorious long lines and wait times associated with the previous Aurora DMV at 339 E. Indian Trail, now closed.
The introduction of the DMV+, at a spacious 10,000 square feet, is to feature specialized services from its Business, Index, Administrative Hearings, and Personnel Departments, tasks that previously required in-person visits to central offices in downtown Chicago or Springfield. The new location at 970 N. Lake St., Suite B, will not only be double the size of its predecessor but will also introduce new technology, additional customer stations, cross-trained employees, and further efficiencies to streamline operations. The Chicago Tribune noted that more details are set to be disclosed at a press conference scheduled today.
With the expansion to the new location, Aurora residents can now look forward to potentially shorter wait times and a more pleasant administrative experience. The Secretary of State's office has emphasized that the larger footprint of the DMV+ is a direct response to the needs of a growing community and the demand for more efficient service. The Aurora DMV+ will be the fourth of its kind in the state, joining the ranks of other enhanced facilities in Lake Zurich, Melrose Park, and Chicago, as per the Chicago Tribune.
