According to the National Weather Service in San Francisco, Bay Area residents can expect a mild heat wave through the weekend. A "Minor HeatRisk" alert has been issued, signaling a minor risk of heat-related impacts, particularly for those sensitive to heat and those without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration. The Inland Bay and Central Coast areas will feel the most significant warmth from late morning to early evening hours, as per the National Weather Service.
As stated by the National Weather Service, San Francisco, CA, the forecast indicates that inland temperatures will hover in the mid-70s, which is 5-10 degrees warmer than normal. Coastal areas, on the other hand, will maintain their cooler temperatures in the 50s due to the lingering marine layer. Patchy dense fog might pose a potential hazard Saturday morning because of the compressing marine layer.
Looking ahead, the warmer-than-average temperatures are set to continue through Monday with gentle winds before cooler weather returns. A small system passing late Saturday into Sunday may let the marine layer thicken slightly, expanding and pushing the morning stratus further inland.
Aviation and marine reports add detail to this weekend's weather expectations. Conditions for flights are affected by widespread MVFR CIGS and potential LIFR/IFR CIGS, especially in the North Bay terminals and fog around STS. Winds are anticipated to stay light in the morning and gain strength throughout the afternoon. Mariners should note that "light to moderate winds continue for Friday", according to the marine forecast, "with seas continuing to subside." A Small Craft Advisory is in effect from Friday evening to early Sunday morning for certain regions off the coast, per the National Weather Service.
