Bay Area residents should brace for weather conditions in the coming days, starting with a frosty Thursday morning. According to the National Weather Service San Francisco, a Frost Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM for multiple areas, including the North Bay interior valleys and parts of Monterey and San Benito Counties. As temperatures are expected to range between 32 and 36 degrees, locals are advised to protect not just themselves but also their pets, plants, and pipes.
With the weekend approaching, forecasts indicate that while the weather might be inviting, beachgoers should exercise caution due to potentially hazardous conditions, such as sneaker waves and strong currents. Enjoying the Spring sunshine is a favorite pastime, but the National Weather Service warns to "respect the power of the ocean from a safe distance" and remain vigilant of the risks posed by the water.
Looking beyond the frost advisory, a warming trend is on the horizon, with a minor Heat Risk possible from Friday through Wednesday. The Area Forecast Discussion from the NWS San Francisco notes, "temperatures climbing to as much as 15 degrees above average by Wednesday." This heat may particularly affect extremely sensitive individuals who lack effective cooling or adequate hydration.
As for the aviation sector, VFR conditions are anticipated to persist for 24 hours, although patchy morning fog has been an issue for some terminals. "Light winds and remnant moisture will allow for fog development through the morning hours, so ensure to use your low-beam headlights, drive slowly, and keep your distance from other vehicles," the NWS Aviation Update advises. Additionally, moderate northerly winds are expected to continue across the coastal waters, with stronger winds and steep waves making for hazardous sailing conditions until they subside by Friday.
