It's baby season at the Brookfield Zoo Chicago, and this spring is seeing a notable influx of new arrivals, several from endangered species. The zoo has announced a list of youngsters that will soon grace the habitats and be visible to the public. Among them are Humboldt penguin chicks, a nyala antelope calf, and a western gray kangaroo joey, as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times.
Particularly drawing attention are the Humboldt penguin chicks hatched in late January and are scheduled to meet their admiring fans come June, as noted by CBS News Chicago. Found under 24,000 in the wild, their conservation has been a priority for zoos for almost two decades.
Not to be overshadowed, a female Nyala calf, born in late February, is also preparing for her debut in May. Brookfield Zoo has a history of advocating for species at risk, and these new members add to their extensive conservation narrative. Visitors will also be treated to the sight of a western gray kangaroo joey, expected to be a summer highlight in the Australia display, as per CBS News Chicago.
