With continuous heavy rainfall, residents are at risk of river flooding, street flooding, and hazardous, waterlogged conditions.
An overcast sky with humidity reaching 96% has set the scene for conditions unfolding across several counties. The NWS has issued a Flood Watch through Sunday morning due to heavy rainfall that may cause rivers, creeks, streams, and low-lying areas to flood. With showers, possibly accompanied by thunderstorms, expected to persist, residents could experience further heavy rainfall, potentially leading to flash flooding this afternoon and evening.
At the same time, a Flood Warning has been issued for areas such as Fall Creek at Millersville and Eagle Creek at Zionsville, following earlier heavy rainfall. In the Fall Creek area, the NWS warns of significant flooding, which could potentially inundate buildings northeast of the monitoring site if flood defenses fail. Meanwhile, Eagle Creek is expected to rise rapidly to minor flood levels, impacting local roads and recreational parks.
The White River, which is currently experiencing widespread flooding from Muncie to Ravenswood, is expected to crest at 10.1 feet by Monday morning, with moderate flooding anticipated in the Ravenswood area, according to the NWS. Buck Creek at Acton, already experiencing minor flooding, is also expected to crest soon. The community is urged to stay cautious, as most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles, and to avoid attempting to cross flooded areas.
Flood Warnings stay in effect for several rivers across the region, with the NWS urging the public to heed road barricades and avoid driving through flooded areas.
