The Chicago Police Department has issued a community alert following a series of robberies that occurred in the Hyde Park neighborhood of the city's 2nd District. According to the alert, victims were approached on the public way, assaulted, and robbed of their belongings. The offenders have been identified as three African-American males, with a height range of 5'07" to 5'09", weighing between 150-170 lbs. and wearing black clothing.
The notice calls attention to two specific incidents, the first taking place on the 5300 block of South Woodlawn Ave. on March 31, 2025, at 10:00 P.M., and, the second, on the 5400 block of South Ellis Ave. on April 6, 2025, at 1:10 A.M. The modus operandi in both cases involved the assailants demanding property from their victims, striking them, and subsequently fleeing the scene on foot or by vehicle. Residents of Hyde Park are urged to maintain a heightened sense of awareness.
Chicago Police are now seeking assistance from the public. The department has advised residents to always watch their surroundings and to report any suspicious behavior to authorities immediately. They have also instructed that in the event of a confrontation, individuals should remain calm and attempt to recall any distinct characteristics of the assailants. "Never pursue a fleeing assailant; provide the information to the police," the alert states.
In the aftermath of these incidents, the Chicago Police have outlined several steps for citizens to safeguard themselves and assist law enforcement. If a crime occurs, individuals are encouraged to dial 9-1-1 immediately, stay on the scene when possible, and, if approached by a witness, to secure their contact information. "Remember any unique physical characteristics (scars, limp, acne, teeth, etc.)," the alert emphasizes.
