Marking a milestone not commonly achieved, DeBaun Funeral Homes and Crematory has been formally recognized for its 100 years of service to the Terre Haute community. State Rep. Bob Heaton (R-Terre Haute) recently extended a certificate to the longtime establishment, which has been operating since 1925. In a recent publication by Indiana House Republicans, Heaton noted the business's century-long commitment to providing compassionate and professional care.
The story of DeBaun Funeral Homes began with Curt DeBaun Sr. and Myrtle DeBaun, who set out to earnestly serve their community with a funeral service. Their work quickly grew to deeply root itself in the fabric of Terre Haute. "For a century, DeBaun Funeral Homes has been a source of comfort, guidance and support, upholding a tradition of excellence that has touched countless lives," Heaton was quoted saying, as the legacy he described has clearly continued to robustly unfold over the years, as detailed by Indiana House Republicans.
Through the decades, DeBaun Funeral Homes expanded their operations. Following the original Prairie Creek location, the family business went on to add the Idaho Street Chapel in 1952, and later the Springhill Chapel in 1989, confirming their longstanding presence in Terre Haute. They also incorporated a crematory into their services and took over the New Harmony Cemetery, widening the scope of their offerings.
Heaton emphasized the establishment's role in the community, remarking on the three generations of DeBauns who've diligently worked to serve the area. "Their steadfast dedication to serving others with professionalism and empathy has made a lasting impact, ensuring that families receive the care and respect they deserve," he said. This sentiment echoes through the business's expansion and adaptation to continue to effectively meet the needs of those experiencing loss, as per Indiana House Republicans.
