Doña Ana County has announced a collaboration with the Rio Grande Trail staff to organize two Open House meetings aimed at informing the public about the ongoing Rio Grande Trail project. Notably, this initiative is dedicated to fostering connections within communities, promoting outdoor activities, and safeguarding the scenic splendor of New Mexico's landscapes.
Stretching for nearly 500 miles, the Rio Grande Trail is an expansive endeavor with 90 miles already accessible to the public. Nestled in southern New Mexico's Chihuahuan Desert, the river serves as an essential resource, nurturing agricultural operations that yield a variety of crops, including chile, cotton, grapes, and pecans. The trail ultimately promises to enhance the recreational landscape while nurturing the natural environment it traverses.
If you wish to participate in discussions about the Rio Grande Trail's development and share your perspectives, the county extends an invitation to join one of the upcoming open house events. According to Doña Ana County, the first meeting is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 2, at Sparky's Burgers and BBQ located at 115 Franklin St., Hatch, NM 87937. The subsequent gathering will take place from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, during the Cinco de Mayo Fiesta at Mesilla Plaza on Calle Principal in Las Cruces.
