
A serious crash late last Saturday at an intersection in Fort Pierce has left one driver with serious injuries and another behind bars on suspicion of DUI. The incident, which happened just before midnight, prompted a closure at Kings Highway and St. Lucie Boulevard.
Law enforcement authorities identified Cruse John Richard, 37, as the impaired driver responsible for the crash. The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office deputies, who responded to the collision attested that Richard displayed signs of impairment, at the crash site. In sharp contrast, the other driver sustained serious injuries, the nature of which has not been disclosed as of now. After being medically cleared, Richard now faces multiple charges, as CBS12 reported.
According to St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, Richard now faces charges which include DUI with Serious Bodily Injury to Another, Resisting an Officer Without Violence, Battery, Simple Assault – Intent to Threaten Violence, and Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, Firefighter, or EMT. He remains held without bond at the St. Lucie County Jail.
Sheriff Richard Del Toro expressed stern views on the gravity of driving under the influence, as mentioned by CBS12. "Driving under the influence is not only reckless—it’s dangerous and unacceptable," Del Toro said. He emphasized community protection, stating, "Our deputies will continue to take a tough stance on impaired driving to protect innocent lives on our roadways. If you choose to, drive under the influence in St. Lucie County, you will be held accountable."
