A motorcycle accident in Murfreesboro has left one person dead after a collision on Thursday. According to the Murfreesboro TN Police Department's social media post, the Murfreesboro Police Department Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) is conducting an investigation of the incident which occurred at the intersection of N. Rutherford Boulevard and Greenland Avenue. Attempts to determine if speeding was a factor in the crash involving a 2016 Ford Fusion and a 2024 Kawasaki EX5 are currently underway.

The motorcyclist, whose identity is withheld pending notification of out-of-town relatives, was pronounced dead at the scene by personnel from Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services after the crash around 10:30 p.m. The preliminary findings suggest the Ford Fusion was traveling southbound in the left turn lane on N. Rutherford Boulevard and collided with the motorcycle while making a left turn on a solid green light, failing to yield the right of way. The car's driver emerged unscathed from the incident which left both directions of N. Rutherford Blvd. at Greenland Ave. closed that night due to the serious nature of the crash.

In the wake of this tragic event and other similar incidents, the Murfreesboro police Traffic Unit and the Rutherford County Traffic Safety Task Force have announced they will host a Motorcycle Safety Event. Scheduled for May 17 from 10 a.m. to noon, the event aims to raise awareness and educate riders on safety practices and will be held at Bumpus Harley-Davidson of Murfreesboro on NW Broad Street.
