A tragic incident unfolded on a Salt Lake City interstate when a wrong-way driver was killed after a head-on collision with an Audi. The catastrophic event caused the closure of northbound I-15 and prompted an extensive law enforcement response. According to KUTV, the blue Toyota Camry was spotted traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-80 before making its way onto I-15, driving south in the northbound lanes, a situation reported around noon on April 6. Tragedy was imminent when the vehicle collided near 700 South.
As reported by KSL, the incident also involved a gray Hyundai, which the wrong-way driver sideswiped. Although suffering minor injuries, the Hyundai driver was hospital-bound for treatment. The driver of the Audi, caught in the cataclysmic impact, is reported to be in stable condition at a local hospital.
In the wake of the accident, traffic adjustments were promptly implemented. ABC4 reports that northbound traffic on I-15 was diverted at 600 South, with estimations pointing to a reopening of the freeway by 3:30 p.m. the same day. Authorities have yet to release the identity of the deceased, and details surrounding the cause of the wrong-way driving remain scarce.
