The Franklin Police Department is on the lookout for new recruits, and they're willing to pay top dollar to get them. In a move to attract more applicants and better talent, the department announced Monday that starting salaries for new officers will be at an all-time high. Entry-level officers are looking at a paycheck starting at $65,000 annually, while experienced officers with P.O.S.T. certification will be offered starting salaries of $68,000, as detailed by the city's official announcement.

According to city officials, this pay increase is part of a strategy to invest in the workforce, which is seen as directly tied to the safety and growth of the community. "Investing in our police officers is investing in the safety and future of Franklin,” Eric Stuckey, Franklin’s city administrator, told FranklinTN.gov. They're positioning themselves not just as employers, but as a stepping stone to higher achievements in law enforcement careers.

The package includes a four-day work week, the luxury of a take-home vehicle, and an inclusive policy that allows tattoos and beards. Those in uniform can also expect college tuition reimbursement, shift differential pay, and competitive health and retirement benefits.

Franklin’s Police Chief, Deb Faulkner, highlighted the supportive ethos of the community towards their officers in a recent statement. “Franklin is a community that stands behind its police officers,” said Faulkner. “We are looking for men and women who are committed to protecting others, while serving with integrity, courage, and compassion. If that’s you, there’s a place for you here at the Franklin Police Department.” Opportunity for professional development is also part of the deal, as the department boasts various elite units including SWAT, FLEX, Dive/Swiftwater Rescue, Honor Guard, and Crisis Negotiation teams.
